The Social Work Concentration prepares students for professional generalist social work practice and aspires to develop and foster a passion for lifelong learning and academic excellence. This program is designed with cultural wealth and equity at the forefront of course design and student experiences. The department integrates students’ diverse backgrounds into the teaching and learning experience, creating a civically engaged community of learners who can think critically of current issues in our complex world. Graduates of the program will carry a strong sense of collegiality and responsibility that will help them succeed in their long-term academic, professional, and personal goals.

Career Outlook
Graduates of this concentration may qualify to transfer to four-year colleges or universities as juniors. The concentration is excellent preparation for careers in social work, and students may also be eligible for the Licensed Social Work Assistant or Licensed Social Worker licenses. A bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for entry into many fields related to social work. Graduate school may be necessary, as well. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the field is expected to grow by more than 16% by 2026.
