EDU-220 Practicum in Instruction The course is a field-based experience that takes place at the end of the student’s exploration of the field of education. The practicum is designed to provide students the opportunity to integrate content knowledge with pedagogical practices in grades 1 - 12 within a public, private, or charter school setting.
Students will work under the direction and supervision of an exemplary educator with knowledge of elementary, middle, or secondary education and a practicum supervisor to complete 10 hours per week of fieldwork. As part of the field experience, students will learn to plan and direct individual, group, and whole class activities, prepare appropriate instructional materials, assist with record keeping, and complete other responsibilities of classroom teachers, and/or paraeducators. Students will participate in a weekly two-hour seminar designed to connect the field experience and content knowledge obtained from courses taken in education. The major focus of the practicum is to provide students with experience working in a school setting performing duties required of a teacher or paraprofessional. Prerequisites EDU-201 Gen. Ed.
