HIS-112 Modern World History This course offers a study of the major world civilizations of the modern period from approximately 1500 to the present. This will include analysis of the defining characteristics of various world regions and their interactions in the accelerating process of globalization. Communities and contexts will be examined in light of the modernizing revolutions in science, philosophy, politics and technology; religion, colonization and decolonization, world wars, and the creation of the interconnected modern world system. No previous history course is required. This course fulfills the requirements for the General Education Area “Community and Cultural Contexts”. Prerequisites Grade of C or better in ESL-098 or RDG-095 and a grade of C or better in ENG-095 ; or a grade of C or higher in ELL-103 or placement. Gen. Ed.
