ENV-211 Environmental Microbiology/Lab

Environmental Microbiology introduces students to the diversity of microbial populations and their ecological roles in terrestrial, aquatic, and marine environments. The course will also focus on industrial microbiology and the relationships of microbes to urban communities. Microbial community ecology and interactions with plans and animals will also be covered. Students will explore how microbial activities sustain natural ecosystems, contribute to environmental quality, and how these functions are harnessed to support and manage artificial systems. Laboratory investigations will introduce students to the standard experimental procedures used to study microbes. The course will satisfy a required program elective for students enrolled in the AS Biological Sciences - Transfer Option. This course will not satisfy the microbiology requirement for healthcare and nursing students. Students in health related programs should enroll in Microbiology & Lab - BIO-205 . Completion or concurrent enrollment in General Biology II & Lab - BIO-196  recommended.
