ECE-221 Practicum/Early Childhood Education II Students participate in a seminar, and engage in a minimum of 12 hours a week in an Early Childhood Education infant, toddler or preschool classroom as a student teacher, with a supervising mentor teacher. Supervised field work provides an opportunity to observe and evaluate children’s development, and put theory into practice. Course
activities include structured observations, analysis of the role of the teacher, and creating observation-based curriculum via the cycle of inquiry. Students learn about a variety of pedagogies and approaches to ECE to develop their unique teaching philosophy. Students receive permission from the ECE department chair to register and assistance/approval for their field placement. These credits and field work hours can lead to lead teacher credentials under Massachusetts EEC. Students must also clear a CORI report before enrolling in the practicum course. The course is open only to students matriculated in the Associate in Science Degree: Early Childhood Concentration. Prerequisites ECE-220 with minimum grade of C; permission of the Department Chair Gen. Ed. Course No Mass Transfer Course No Credits: 3
