MUS-103 Introduction to Music Theory This course serves as an introduction to music theory, music notation, and ear training. This course is designed for Music Concentration majors (or those who plan to enroll in several music courses) who either do not read music well or would benefit from additional study and review. Topics include note reading, rhythm and meter, scales, intervals, chords, score reading, various musical terms, and critical thinking about music. This course also introduces sight-reading of rhythms, melodies, and intervals, as well as recognizing them by ear. Students with significant music reading experience should contact the Department Chairperson to take a placement examination before enrolling in this course. Prerequisites ESL-088 and ESL-089 ; or RDG-090 and ENG-090 ; or ELL-101 ; minimum grade C; or exemption by placing into higher-level courses. Gen. Ed. Course No Mass Transfer Course Yes Credits: 3
