ENV-112 Indigenous Perspectives on Landscapes This course examines the relationship between Indigenous knowledge systems, environmental stewardship, and modern environmental challenges, with a focus on southern New England tribes. Students explore biodiversity, sustainability, climate change, and environmental justice while addressing the challenges to the implementation of Indigenous stewardship principles; Indigenous strategies to engage environmental and climate crises; and prospects for collaborative land management, environmental restoration, and cultural revitalization projects between tribes, Indigenous NGOs with state, local, federal and NGO partners in the furtherance of environmental and climate justice. Case studies, service-learning projects, and collaborations with tribes and NGOs provide practical experience in advocating for Indigenous stewardship principles to foster justice, sustainability, and resilience. This course meets the General Education requirement for Community and Cultural Contexts. Prerequisites ENG-095 and RDG-095 ; or ELL-103 ; and MAT-093 or placement equivalency Gen. Ed.
