CIT-278 Penetration Testing


This course introduces the network security specialist to the various methodologies for attacking a network in the role of a penetration tester. Students will be introduced to the concepts, principles, and techniques, supplemented by hands-on exercises for performing a penetration test from beginning to conclusion. These methodologies are presented within the context of understanding and employing the tools, techniques, and processes used by a penetration tester to support companies in identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities.  Students will apply their domain knowledge by researching, identifying, planning, explaining, and using tools and techniques to exploit vulnerabilities of a network, and providing mitigation strategies while developing a penetration testing report for a target organization. Students will receive course content information through a variety of methods including lectures, labs, videos, quizzes, simulations, and workshops. This course and the student learning outcomes are directly aligned to the EC Council Certified Ethical Hacker certification exam. Students will be required to sign a White Hat Hacker Oath.
Prerequisites CIT-268  or CIT-270  or permission of the Department Chair.
